Symonds 'surprised' by rupees 5.4 crore payday at IPL PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 February 2008
Melbourne, Feb 21 (ANI): Andrew Symonds is surprised by the price he fetched at Indian Premier League (IPL) player auction.

Symonds went for Rs 5.4 crore (1.47 million dollars) to play for Hyderabad, which was well above the price paid for any other Australian player and second only to India's one-day captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni six crore (1.65 million dollars).

By contrast, Australian captain Ricky Ponting went for 436,000 dollars.

Brett Lee was the second most expensive Australian at 982,000 dollars and Symonds said he could not work out why his price was so much higher than other Australian players.

"If I could tell you why that would probably be quite a good news story, but there is no sort of logical sense to what each player's worth ... I can't see a pattern," The Australian quoted Symonds, as saying.

He said he found the entire auction process amazing and was surprised by the values of many of the players.

He said he was particularly surprised at the difference between his price and that of Ponting. (ANI)
