Explosions triggered by ULFA in Assam injure 20 Print E-mail
Saturday, 08 March 2008
Guwahati, Mar 8 (ANI): At least twenty people were injured on Saturday in two bomb explosions that were triggered by suspected militants of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) in Guwahati and Tinsukia.

According to officials, a third bomb was recovered in Darrang district.

In Guwahati, a bomb that was kept under a truck in Fancy Bazar area blew up around 1:30 pm injuring four persons, said police.

As the injuries were not severe they were given first-aid.

Almost 30 minutes later, the rebels triggered another explosion at G N B Road in Tinsukia town injuring 16 people. Six of them were severely wounded.

The police had cordoned off the area soon after the blast took place and injured were admitted to a hospital.

A 2.5 kg bomb was recovered from a bicycle in Darrang district at around 11:30 am.

The Assam Police believe that it could be the handiwork of the ULFA, which was stepping up rebellious activities in the run up to its foundation day on April 7. (ANI)
