NCP accuses Congress of kidnapping three independent MLAs Print E-mail
Monday, 10 March 2008
Shillong, Mar 10 (ANI): The NCP-led Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) has accused the Congress of kidnapping three of the five independent MLAs.

"We have learnt that the Congress has used the State machinery to illegally detain three independent MLAs who were willing to join us. We have registered our complaint with the authorities including the Governor. They should be given freedom to select side," NCP MP Robert Kharsiing at Raj Bhavan.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Margaret Alva, whose party has won 25 seats in the 60-member house, did not reply to queries.

The NCP has alleged that the Congress has kept three of the five Independent MLAs under illegal custody.

Congress dismissed the allegation as baseless.

NCP leader P A Sangma has support of 30 MLAs including 14 of his party, 11 of UDP, two of Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP), one each from BJP and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHNAM) and two independents - Manas Choudhury and Donkupar Massar. (ANI)
