Deposed Pak CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry to be a free man tomorrow Print E-mail
Monday, 24 March 2008

Islamabad, Mar 24 (ANI): In all likelihood, immediately after the swearing-in of Yousuf Raza Gillani as the new Pakistan premier tomorrow morning, the country's deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry might become a free man, after spending more than five months in detention at home.

PPP sources said that the security forces deployed in front of Chaudhry's house in the Judges Enclave in Islamabad will be removed on Tuesday evening. This would mark the symbolic end of an era when absolute power was enjoyed by one man (read Musharraf) for eight years, five months and 13 days.

Power practically will be shifted to the democratically-elected prime minister on March 25, The News quoted PPP sources as saying on Sunday.

According to the senior leader of the lawyers' movement, after being released from his detention by President Pervez Musharraf, Chaudhry will remain at his home for three-four days and will meet visitors. Thereafter, he might travel to any city to address a bar council. (ANI)
