Meghalaya to focus on poverty alleviation, development, says Governor PDF Print E-mail

Shillong, Mar 24 (ANI): Meghalaya Governor Shivender Singh Sidhu on Monday said that the State Government's prime focus would be on poverty alleviation and development.

Spelling out the State Government's objectives at the start of the Budget Session of the State Assembly, Governor Sidhu said in his 42-page address that: "The state government has fixed priorities on power, agriculture, roads, tourism, social, poverty alleviation and employment generation. The revised industrial policy is in draft stage and has promised that the online computerization would be finished by this year."

The Governor Sidhu said that the Planning Commission has projected a plan size of Rs 9185.00 crore for Meghalaya during the 11 th five-year plan period.

"The revenue collection of the state has increased more than 100 per cent since last three years and during 2006-2007, it became 211.65 cores," he added.

He said a peaceful environment was necessary for development and other kinds of economic activity.

He also informed that State Finance Finance minister Conrand A Sangma would present the budget on Thursday. (ANI)
