Indian, Nepalese released in Afghanistan Print E-mail
Sunday, 18 May 2008

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): An Indian and a Nepalese, who were kidnapped in Western Afghanistan, 27 days ago were released safely late Saturday night.

Both of them work for Dubai-based HEB International Logistics. They were kidnapped on April 22.

Indian Ambassador to Kabul, Jayant Prasad, said that the Indian Mohammad Naeem and the Nepalese K.B. Gurung reached their employers at Adraskan in the Herat province around early Sunday morning.

He also expressed his deep sense of gratitude to the Afghanistan Government for securing the safe release of the two kidnapped.

Authorities said that the abductors were a criminal gang operating in the area.

India has pledged 850 million dollars for a number of developmental projects in Afghanistan - a gateway to the energy-rich Central Asia.

New Delhi has already made it clear that it would not "succumb" to pressure from any quarters to withdraw from the strife-torn country. (ANI)
