Kathmandu, June 3 (ANI): In the wake of rising differences between the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists (CPN-M) and the other Constituent Assembly (CA) parties, the leaders of the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML on Tuesday discussed issues crucial to the next government including constitutional amendment and power-sharing.

According to Kantipur, the major parties minus the CPN-M are in favour of an amendment seeking a provision of a simple majority to form and dissolve the government.

Similarly, the Maoists, who are poised to lead the soon-to-be-formed government, have stuck to their stance claiming the posts of both the President and the Prime Minister, while the other parties continue to strongly oppose the idea.

Today's meeting ended with an understanding to seek consensus within two-three days after holding serious discussions with the CPN-M, the single largest party in the CA.

Prime Minister and NC President Girija Prasad Koirala, Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel, UML General Secretary Jhala Nath Khanal, leaders Madhav Kumar and Amrit Kumar Bohara, among others were present during the meeting held at the Prime Minister's official residence at Baluwatar.

Meanwhile, PM Koirala and the UML leaders discussed former King Gyanendra Shah's request for a new residence.

The NC and the UML have agreed that the government will soon make a decision after consulting with other political parties, NC leader Minendra Rijal informed.

Indian envoy meets Prachanda

Indian ambassador to Nepal Rakesh Sood on Tuesday called on Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and discussed issues related to the new government's formation.

During the meeting held at Prachanda's residence, the Maoist Chairman said that his party will lead the next government and expressed confidence that the Indian government will continue to extend support.

In turn, Sood assured Prachanda that India will assist the Maoist-led government.

Maoist second-in-command Dr. Baburam Bhattarai was also present at the meeting. (ANI)
