Medina, June 8 (ANI): Pakistan People's Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said that if President Pervez Musharraf does not quit the power the Parliament may impeach him under democratic process.
Addressing a press conference here along with Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Zardari said that only the Parliament has an authority of sending President and Prime Minister back home.
Commenting on the Musharraf's talk with senior journalists, Zardari said that he had already advised the President to quit the power and if he is not ready for this then the Parliament is the supreme institution and it has full authority to decide about his future.
He Zardari said that the judges may be restored through the constitutional package.
Earlier, Musharraf on Saturday declared in categorical terms that he had no immediate plan to resign or go into exile, but said he was ready to face impeachment and would accept any decision taken by the Parliament.
"I won't resign in the current situation. I will live and die in Pakistan, there is no other way," Musharraf told a select group of journalists.
Rumours that Musharraf is on his way out have been in circulation in the country for the past few weeks and on May 29 the rumour was so strong that it brought public and commercial life to a virtual standstill.
The same night Musharraf hosted a farewell dinner for former Punjab Governor Lt-General (retired) Khalid Maqbool. On that occasion he rubbished all such rumours.
However, the rumour mills continued to grind, forcing Musharraf to come out with his version.
The president, however, indicated that he would not like to be reduced to a ceremonial head of state.
Musharraf aides ask A Q Khan to avoid speaking against him
Islamabad, June 8 (ANI): Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf's close aides have called on disgraced scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan and asked him to avoid giving statements against the President.
The meeting took place in the backdrop of the scientist's recent statements that he had made the confession under pressure.
Dr Khan has recently said that he had given the televised confessional statement in the larger interest of the country, but the promises made to him by Musharraf for doing so had never been fulfilled.
According to the sources, Musharraf's aides told Dr Khan that his case could be reviewed and restrictions on his movement could be lifted, if he promised not to harm President's image in the media.
The sources claimed that Dr Khan gave a positive response to the offer.
Meanwhile, Dina Khan, the daughter of AQ Khan, has blasted Musharraf for falsely repeating his old statement about her father and said: "Musharraf should, in fact, be cringing with shame."
Dina Khan has strongly reacted to the statement of Musharraf, which he made during his meeting with media men in Rawalpindi on Saturday.
Her statement came amid reports that a team from the President House had met Dr AQ Khan and told him to stop attacking Musharraf in his statements.
"I find it quite amusing and ironic that a man who is clinging to power for dear life, having dragged the country down into its worst economic state ever, should presume to make statements about anyone else," The News quoted her, as saying. (ANI)
