Manipur, June 16 (ANI): Attaining first division in the Visharad-II examination of Hindustani classical music (vocal), conducted by the famed Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth of Lucknow, a 12 year-old-boy from Manipur has staked claims for inclusion of his name in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest Sangeet Vidwan.

Soraisam Leninjit, a student of Class VII at DAV Public School, Sangakpham started learning music since the age of six.

Even mature persons find it hard to pass Visharad-II after four to five years of learning, but Leninjit secured the degree without any difficulty.

Leninjit had also passed Prathama, Madhyama and Visharad-I courses in first division.

Besides musical knowledge, Leninjit has fared well in academics passing all his tests and examinations.

On attaining Visharad-II at such a young age, a claim has been forwarded for inclusion of his feat in the Guinness Book of World Records.

"Now, he has successfully passed his Visharad-II examination. At times, I wonder if I have made mistake when I see the pain and struggle he has to go through, but knowing that this is going to make his career through this, I feel really satisfied," said Leninjit's father S Joychandra Singh.

"In accordance to the wish of his grandfather, Lenin was sent to the music school. Soon after he learned speaking, he started murmuring songs," Joychandra said.

"While I was crying as a small baby my grandfather use to tell my father to let me take up singing as my profession. That is the reason why I took up music," said Leninjit.

Till now, he has bagged 16 awards in the state level singing competitions and has also performed in concerts.

"He has won many first prizes consecutively for three years in state level competitions," said Bankim, a teacher. (ANI)
