Saturday, 21 June 2008

Imphal, June 21 (ANI): Militants spread terror to get their demands fulfilled and the people of Manipur are paying the price. A recent bomb blast at Chingmeirong in Imphal has created fear and panic among the people.

Denouncing the incident, residents of the area, mostly womenfolk, staged a sit-in-protest against militant groups. They want peace and an end to militancy.

"Planting bombs and firing guns in busy areas is not good. This happens in every corner of Manipur. Are they showing their strength and power? We do not want this type of activities taking place, " said Indrani Devi, a social worker.

Binod Singh, General Secretary, Chingmeirong Youth Welfare Association, said, "We are not satisfied with the present situation. There is always fear in one's mind, anything may happen anytime. We never feel secure in the society."

A man was seriously injured and five shops damaged when a powerful bomb exploded in a shopping area in Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai.

The bomb planted by Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council) militants did not claim any life, but severely injured a shopkeeper.

The intensity of explosion was such that it caused damage to several houses in the perimeter of around 500 ft.

Innocent people fear for their lives and are weary of militant activities and oppose militancy as it has disrupted normal life. They want peace and normalcy to return as quickly as possible. (ANI)
