Kabul, July 7 (ANI): 41 persons were killed and more than 141 people were injured, including civilians and security forces, in the blast which took place in the morning rush hour.
According to the local police, the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber, a BBC report said and added that the causalities had not been confirmed yet.
Smoke was coming from the scene of the blast, the report further said.
After that blast, additional guards and barriers were posted on the tree-lined street, and police cordoned off the area.
According to witnesses, the bomber appeared to have targeted people queuing for visas.
India condemns terror attack at its embassy in Kabul
India has strongly condemned the terrorist attack at the Indian Embassy in Kabul today and stated that the "cowardly" act, would not deter it from fulfilling its commitments to the Government and people of Afghanistan.
Among the dead, four were identified as Indians, which included Brigadier R. Mehta and Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer (Counsellor-Political) V. Venkat Rao.
External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said here today, "We are in touch with the Ambassador who is supervising arrangements for medical assistance."
"The Government of India strongly condemns this cowardly terrorist attack on its diplomatic mission in Afghanistan," said Sarna.
He further added, "Such acts of terror will not deter us from fulfilling our commitments to the Government and people of Afghanistan."
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was called here by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to discuss the situation in Kabul.
According to sources, Mukherjee deliberated with Defence Minister A. K. Antony and senior officials of the External Affairs Ministry about the situation.

India sends a high level team to Kabul
A special team headed by secretary in the External Affairs Ministry, Nalin Surie is leaving for Kabul in the wake of the blast this morning at the Indian embassy, which killed 41 people and injured over 141 people.
Nalin Suri is being accompanied by officials from the Home Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). He is flying by a special air force aircraft and also taking along with him a medical team to tend to the injured in Kabul.
Meanwhile, the External Affairs Minister, Pranab Mukherjee has condemend the terror attack which killed five personnel of the Indian embassy, which includes the defence attache Brigadier R Mehta , Counsellor V. V. Rao , two Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials and a local employee in the embassy.
