Washington, Oct.6 (ANI): Comedian Tina Fey hopes she doesn't have to impersonate Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin for the next four years.

A former head writer for the show, Fey has returned for the past several weeks to her alma mater, "Saturday Night Live," (SNL) to play the Alaska governor.

This week, according to Fox News, the show did a barbed send-up of last week's debate between Palin and Joe Biden. Fey showed no mercy on Saturday night as she skewered Palin with her colloquialisms, gestures and northern accent.

Cast member Jason Sudeikis played Biden. Queen Latifah played the debate moderator, Gwen Ifill.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Fey's presentation of Palin as a Bible-thumping, beauty queen with a tautological belief system suggests the comedy show loves the Alaska governor.

Winking at the audience in a manner adopted by Palin at the debate, Fey's character said if she were elected vice president, her decisions would be guided by considering "what would a maverick do?"

She described marriage as an institution between two "unwilling teenagers" and questioned the source of global warming.

"We don't know if this climate change who's-i-what's-it is caused by man or if it is just a natural part of the End of Days," Fey said in response to one question.

At the end of the segment, she asked with flute in hand, "Are we not doing the talent portion?"

Palin was runner-up in the 1984 Miss Alaska contest. Her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is planning to marry the father of their expected child next year.

SNL has had a ratings bonanza since Palin came on the scene, and the mimicry has become a near-weekly occurrence that doubles as a wry take of the news cycle.

As much as Palin got the usual treatment this week, Biden also was parodied for his conflicting feelings about McCain and his efforts to portray himself as an every man from Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Fey will get a break from playing Palin after three weeks.

The show goes on hiatus for a week and Fey will return to her day job is starring in, producing and writing for NBC's "30 Rock."

The network has said her appearances on "SNL" are being decided on a week-to-week basis.(ANI)
